The Place, London – Partnership Programme Hertfordshire Satellite CAT Scheme Course (Centre for Advanced training – Dance).
Partnership Programme in Hertfordshire
The Partnership Programme in Hertfordshire is supported by Centre for Advanced Training (CAT) at The Place. The course offers a unique, intensive programme over a period of 6-8 months which sees successful candidates train in contemporary dance technique led by professional artists. Successful students have the opportunity to attend an open day at The Place, take part in intensive rehearsals and perform at the CAT annual Summer Show at The Robin Howard Theatre, amongst other local performance opportunities.
Funded by the Department for Education Music and Dance Scheme, CATs exist to help identify, and assist, children with exceptional potential, regardless of their personal circumstances, to benefit from world-class specialist training as part of a broad and balanced education. This will enable them if they choose to proceed towards self-sustaining careers in music and dance.
About The 2018 Programme
The scheme is devised to prepare young dance artists for full-time professional dance training, university or to go straight into the dance profession and includes tuition in five key areas:
Creative dance and choreography
Dancers’ health and wellbeing
Cultural activities such as theatre and gallery trips, workshops and volunteering opportunities
The curriculum is intended to give students a strong basic grounding in technical and creative skills, as well as an introduction to the wider dance profession. The scheme is delivered outside of school time and every effort is made to encourage a healthy balance between academic work, dance training and normal life.
All students take part in two intensive projects which may take place over a weekend, often with leading British and International Dance Artists.
All students receive an Individual Training Plan (ITP) to aid their development and highlight personal goals and needs.
Places are limited. Up to 20 young people between 12-16 years old will be invited to take part on the 25 week 2018 course
Dancers will attend regular weekly classes led by professional dance artists
The course is structured to deliver contemporary technique and creative workshops to develop the skills of participants and give them a taster of what they can expect on the year round London CAT course.
This year students will have the option to undertake a bronze Arts Award, whilst participating on the programme.
The group will create a performance piece to be performed at the at The Place Summer Performances in London, More Performance opportunities TBC.
Students will have the opportunity to attend a taster day at The Place. The Place is the hub of all things contemporary dance – the building hosts London Contemporary Dance School, one of the UK’s top conservatories, Richard Alston Dance Company, the Robin Howard Dance Theatre, artist development, classes and courses for the general public and the Centre for Advanced Training programme.
Students will attend theatre trips to a professional dance performance.
At the end of the programme students will be given information about other appropriate dance opportunities in the region.

We look forward to receiving your application.
No other Dance School has inspired or motivated me more-what I have achieved under Hot House Dance's mentoring I could have only dreamed of doing 3 years ago.
Niamh Milligan - Dancer
So thankful we found Hot House Dance. When your child has a passion for dance you need teachers that can build on that love of dance and inspire, push, bring out the best and open other doors of opportunity. Hot House Dance has done all of those things and more.
Donna Milligan - Parent
We highly recommend Hot House Dance! We heard about their CAT scheme through The Place in London. Hot House Dance has a winning way with all there students, building their confidence as well as their dancing ability! We drive over an hour to get to his classes, which says it all!
